Br. Eberhard Schaeflein, O.S.A. (1893 - 1952)

Br. Eberhard Schaeflein, O.S.A. entered eternal life on April 25, 1952.

Eberhard Schaeflein was born on June 25, 1893 in Stettbach, Germany.

On February 1, 1925, Eberhard was received into the Augustinian Novitiate of the Province of Germany. He professed simple (temporary) vows in the Order of St. Augustine on February 2, 1926 and solemn (permanent) vows on February 2, 1929.

Brother Eberhard was assigned by his Province to St. Rita High School, Chicago, Illinois. He later became affiliated to the Augustinian Province of Our Mother of Good Counsel (Augustinians of the Midwest). In 1945, he became a citizen of the United States.

During his 25 years at St. Rita High School, Brother Eberhard served as sacristan and janitor. He was a familiar and well-loved figure at St. Rita High School.

On April 25, 1958, Brother Eberhard died of heart disease. He is buried in the Augustinian plot at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Alsip, Illinois.
