News from Peru: Building St. Augustine High School

Yesterday was a busy day for the first day of the assembly.  Bishop Dan Turley, O.S.A. spent the day with us which was nice.  He gave us a talk, quoting heavily from Pope Francis on authority as service.  He also did the blessing of the recently purchased land here in Trujillo where a new school is to be built.  I participated in the ceremony by placing a copy of the religious and civil documents in the ground which give permission to built and operate our school.

In my brief talk, that was translated into Spanish, I thanked the three Augustinian Provinces (Midwest Province of Our Mother of Good Counsel, California Province of St. Augustine and Villanova Province of St. Thomas of Villanova) for their contribution to purchase this land.  I told them that while this still seems like a dream, you have to dream in order to see such projects become a reality.

This is a very big step in the life of the vicariate and their hope of becoming a new Peruvian Province in the future.  It was also noted that one man present here today was also present 50 years ago when we came to Peru:  Fr. Richard Palmer, O.S.A.!

Sincerely in Christ and St. Augustine,

Very Rev. Bernard C. Scianna, O.S.A., Ph.D.

Prior Provincial of the Midwest Augustinians
