Heart to Heart: From the United States to Peru
For 15 years, Rita Prunuske has been connecting hearts across the Western Hemisphere. How?
In 2001, Rita helped assemble a joint effort between the Rockford Diocesan Council of Catholic Women and the diocese's newspaper The Observer. She has been organizing the project since she visited Peru first-hand and witnessed the needs of the local children growing up in extreme poverty. The project has since raised $66,832 to purchase school supplies for needy children in the Diocese of Chulucanas, Peru. The diocese is led by Augustinian missionary, Bishop Dan Turley, O.S.A., who was born in Chicago.
The Augustinians have been serving the needy children of Northern Peru for decades, like the ones seen here near the Church of Pacaipampa, seen in the background of the picture.
But This Is About More Than Money
The Heart-to-Heart Project seeks contributions of at least $2, coupled with a decorated drawing of a double heart. The hearts, with the donations, are sent to the children in Peru. From one child's gift in the United States to another's in Peru, love can travel over 3,000 miles!

Augustinians in Peru
The Augustinians began serving as missionaries Peru in 1964, at the request of St. John XXIII. The Midwest Augustinians support the Diocese of Chulucanas and the growing Augustinian Order in Peru.
