Augustinians Bless New Memorial at Holy Sepulchre

The Augustinians friars of the Midwest Province gathered on the Feast of St. Nicholas of Tolentine to bless a new memorial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, in Alsip, IL. This newly constructed memorial, located within the Augustinian burial plot, lists all Friars who have died since the founding of the Province in 1941, and who are buried in locations other than Holy Sepulchre. The monument, which lists the names of 40 friars, now creates a central place of remembrance for the names of all deceased Midwest Augustinians.

The midday prayer service was led by Fr. Bernie Scianna, with a homily by Fr. Tom McCarthy, who together spearheaded the effort to realize this memorial. Closing remarks were also given by Fr. Larry Sullivan, Director of Catholic Cemeteries of the Archdiocese of Chicago.

Special gratitude is owed to Augustinian Affiliates Anne Russell and Michael Heeney for spearheading the fundraising effort for this memorial, as well as to all who generously donated to this project. God bless you all!
