St. Rita Parish To Receive Award for Service to Immigrant Community

The Midwest Augustinian Province is delighted to announce that St. Rita of Cascia Parish has been selected by the Archdiocese of Chicago to receive the 2018 Saint Toribio Romo Award. Saint Rita Parish, located in the southwest side neighborhood of Marquette Park, was chosen out of all parishes in recognition of its Pastoral Migratoria program, which ministers to and empowers the Hispanic immigrant population of its community by addressing "urgent, basic human and pastoral needs in the absence of immigration policy restructure."

In an award letter sent from the Office of Human Dignity and Solidarity, St. Rita of Cascia was recognized for "their active leadership team that continuously takes initiative responding to the immigrant community's needs. This includes organizing citizenship classes and individual consultations with immigration attorneys, working collaboratively with civic, professional, and governmental organizations, accompanying families in the community, and supporting other Pastoral Migratoria parishes."

The award will be presented to the parish community by Cardinal Blase Cupich at the 2018 Keep Hope Alive benefit concert on Monday, April 9, 2018, at St. Ignatius College Prep and Holy Family Parish.
