Augustinians in Chicago Speak Out In Support of Immigrant Families

On February 21, Prior Provincial Fr. Tony Pizzo and the Augustinian Community of St. Rita Parish in Chicago brought together leaders of various faith communities for a press conference to spread a message of hope and solidarity with immigrant families. The event was organized in the wake of troubling announcement from the federal government that Border Patrol officers may enter Chicago and other sanctuary cities to arrest undocumented immigrants.

The Augustinian friars were joined by Rabbi Ricky Kamil, of the Illinois Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, Jeremy Chia of L’Arche Chicago, and immigrant advocates Conseulo Martínez and Elideth Hernández.

As a practical and immediate gesture of solidarity, the clergy and organizers promised immigrants of the south side their assistance in connecting with legal assistance and mental health services.

The event was well-covered by the Chicago media, and we encourage you to read and view more at through the following news links: Block Club Chicago, Telemundo, Univision
